(This story is the first part of a series of fanfictions for a game about being an exocolonist, i.e. helping build up a settlement on a distant earth-like planet in outer space. It does not require any knowledge of the game, though, as it is actually deliberately written to be enjoyable by people outside the (tiny) fandom as well.)
